ABIGAIL PILMAY
The Pilmays at Silkstone and their contemporaries at Bolsterstone established what was to become a world-class glass-making industry.
Abigail, along with John and Peter Pilmay, contributed greatly with their innovations and expertise in solving the glassmakers’ problems of producing glass (particularly lead glasses) in a coal-fired furnace, using local coal and clay suitable for the manufacture of crucibles.
Further work has been carried out on Abigail Pilmay which includes work on the Pot House which can be seen on the banner displayed in the church. This can be viewed on the link below.
